"There is nothing exquisite about my life. It's mine, though, so I'm going to make something out of it."

This book addresses topics young people (and even adults) might find difficult to discuss in a succinct yet thought-provoking way. It’s a very matter-of-fact story with didactic writing and so much to explore and unpack. I think Piecing Me Together can serve as a powerful tool to initiate meaningful conversations both in and out of the classroom.

Jade reminded me so much of myself when I was young: isolated, unsure, but still so passionate. I loved following on her journey and really saw her grow into a more self-assured person. This book filled me with so much pride, I hope all young black girls get a chance to interact with this novel.

This book was amazing. I have no complaints it was perfect. It's a bit of a heavy book but it handles all the things it discusses well. Jade is a compelling character and her growth is amazing. Lee Lee and Sam are great side characters. Maxine was a great character and a great look into the difference class makes. The book comments so well on so many intersectional topics. It talks about race and gender and class and body type. Really good.
