Too much crime so it was a slow read but I loved Edward. Tink stole the show though.

Didn't quite hit that spot that books one and two did, not for me anyway! It's good, yes, but not as good as the others, sorry :-(

So I'm finding this series by Jay hit & miss and I'm trying to keep in mind that this were here debut series and I've read her catalogue backwards starting with some of her newer works first and gone back to these and because I've done that i can see how much her storytelling and writing has improved and developed so it's making some of these tough to get through.

The pacing of this one is off. It feels very insta-lust/love and the time they go from both being against a romantic entanglement to throwing the L word about is a week at most and given the personalities of both MCs but especially Mark and his avoidance of commitment in his life upto meeting Edward it just didn't feel plausible for them to end up where they did so quickly and the crime/police procedural side of it was ok, but again underdeveloped. Overall, I was entertained by this as i didn't dnf, but it just didn't give me what I was looking for. Gary Furlongs narration was on point as always though. 🤷‍♀️

"ANYTHING MORE THAN ONE NIGHT, TWO AT A PUSH, MAKES ME ITCHY IN WAYS YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, AND YET AGAINST ALL ODDS, HERE I AM, STILL TRYING, NOT RUNNING FOR THE HILLS.."

This series definitely had its ups and downs, but it was a group of characters I really came to love. From the intensity and danger Michael found himself in when he witnessed something he shouldn’t, to the drama of Reuben’s horrible evil douchebag of a father, to the murder mystery that followed Mark, to the fight for basic rights with Sandy and Miller, and finally seeing the wedding we’ve all been waiting for. Auckland Med is a must read series!

Reasons I Recommend:

1) The mystery of the drugs on top of murders has you holding your breath to see how the detective and the pathologist can figure it out.

2) Hogan writes angst and mystery while keeping a hot romance going like no other and seeing how Mark learns to trust his new partner and Ed learns to trust himself only adds to this.

3) From doctors to police officers to nurses to rugby players, the research done deserves applause. It was like ER and Chicago Fire rolled into one with a lot of extra romance.

This book was another great addition to the Auckland series.

I really liked Knight and Newton. Knight has shown up in previous books, and this book explores the depth of his character. Jay Hogan does a great job of showing how stereotypes only reflect the surface of someone's personality. My vote for favorite Jay Hogan character is a tie between Knight and Newton. One of them might be Hellblazer, and one of them collects Hellblazer. Both are wonderful traits.

The plot was interesting, but the conclusion didn't have quite the bite that the mystery at the beginning did. The story overall was still engaging, and I would like to see more mystery/thriller style romance from the author.

I enjoyed this one; not quite as much as book two, and wondering why it switched back to 3rd person pov… but I loved the external drama and of course Tinkerbell!
