DNF. Writing was rough and clunky. Story jumped all over the place. The character development for Talon and Finn was poor. Their relationship development was non existent. The Enhanced team was incohesive. The world building was sketchy.

I liked Finn kinda and I liked the banter but the romance came out of nowhere. I mean Finn was a huge virgin closet case and suddenly he's fine with aggressively kissing and sex? Make it make sense.
Anyway it made me lose interest in the story because I was looking for the slow burn.

3.5 rounded up. I know everyone's saying that this just like THIRDS and it is, but I did love this more than I like the THIRDS series. I like Talon way more and Finn is also great. I liked Finn's background story - I have a soft spot for characters w/ bullshit family and they struggle and succeed to become different and better.
Yes, the romance was rushed, and I'm most likely not going to get the rest in the series but it was a good time as it was.

Couldn’t put it down!
I was initially skeptical as when I read the blurb I thought “this appears to be a rip off of a Hailey Turner/Charlie Cochet mash up.” But I figured I’d give it a try. So glad I did. I stayed up all night to read the book in one sitting as I couldn’t put it down. I was sucked right in to this universe.
The Enhanced in this book (the part that sounds a lot like Hailey Turner’s Metahumans series) are all fodder for great character development. We get a little bit of each of the team members’ stories but this book focuses on team leader Talon and the human brought in to be his partner in an experimental unit that will be part of the FBI. The human, Finn, also has an interesting back story that the author weaves in and uses well as the plot develops.
There are a number of plot points which keeps things interesting...the development of this new team, the team dynamics, the romance between Talon and Finn, the politics of the other, a mystery of disappearing children. All are wound well into the story arc which moves at a good clip, never bogging down despite so many diverse elements.
All the emotions are here...joy, sadness, anger, fury, hurt...and the reader gets to run the emotional gamut. It’s the old cliche...I laughed, I cried...
Highly recommend. And I’ll be moving right on to book two!

This is a pretty good super-human story. I have quibbles with some of the plot, and I'm hoping that there will be an explanation of sorts for the "mutation," but aside from that, and that the "rare" enhanced turn up regularly, I found the story compelling enough that I read it in two days. If you enjoy humans with powers stories and smart people screwing up around feelings, you'll probably enjoy this, too. #2 is also Talon and Finn, just FYI.
This was okay for me. Not bad, but not great. I loved Finn immensely, but I never connected with Talon. For a team leader, he wasn't very team leader-like. I found him quick to anger, quick to react, and frankly, a bit immature. He kept running away from his problems instead of facing them head-on and it got a bit old after a while. There's one point in the story where Talon mentions that he tried not have feelings...and I bought that, because I honestly never felt much from him.
I liked the world the author has built, but the story itself needed a bit more development and clarity. There were a few times where something happened that wasn't properly explained and I was left confused. And I didn't buy what happened in the climax.
The relationships between the guys on the team was my favourite aspect of this story. The author did a great job in showcasing their individual personalities and how they interact with each other.
The story needed work, but I enjoyed the characters.

As soon as I read the premise for this book I knew I had to read it because it was giving me some serious THIRDS vibes. I think people who love THIRDS will definitely enjoy this one too.
I absolutely adored Finn's character, he was such a sweet guy but also incredibly brave. I did like Talons character, although he did make such seriously dumb decisions at points when it comes to Finn. I'm hoping he'll get his act together in the next one. The secondary characters were also great, I love how they all came round and accepted Finn even though it was hard for them.
This was such a solid start to the series, the perfect mix of romance and action. I cannot wait to see what else is to come.
