4.5 stars - a fantastic book that I enjoyed binging for Labour Day! Definitely a great holiday read for the beach this Summer - especially being a shorter book and a quick read

I really really loved this book and the premise and all of it. It left me with questions especially regarding
who the father of Katherine’s first child is
. I wish the
resolution had been what I hoped for. I would’ve loved some final connection between the Chamberlains and the Aunt, I suppose that happened with the return of Maurice’s bones earlier in the book
. Very sad,
I was really rooting for these kids to get back to someone who cared for them unconditionally and for Suzanne to get some closure.
I think this could make a great film although I feel the end/structure would have to be tweaked. Great world building and really beautiful writing even though I didn’t love the ending. Would defo read another book by Carl

This was so full on, the first part was almost unbearable to read, it gave me nightmares. But it was so well written that I had to keep reading. The perfect example of New Zealand gothic.
