i enjoyed this story but there were definitely moments that took me out of it, the characters felt less developed and i was annoyed that Kip slipped up into the territory
of infidelity, even if that is probably the more realistic thing that would happen if this were a real life scenario.
ultimately though, Rachel Reid has a knack for writing sweet, sensual, intense mm romance that has me always rooting for their happy ending.

i'm glad i read this series out of order, bc if i had started with this one, i'm not sure i would have been sucked into the remaining books like i was - but still this series has been brain chemical altering for me!!

p.s. wtf was Tor Thom's narration in this one?? his Brooklyn accent actually HURT me.

Ok. This book was incredible. I cried MULTIPLE times. I wish I had read it before the second book, but despite having one scene spoiled, the book was still fucking awesome. I'm shocked how different this was from the second book and yet how much I loved them for different reasons.

I loved both characters and I loved their dynamic together (both in and out of the bedroom). I thought the ending was great and a really good set up for the second book.

I truly have nothing bad to say about this book, it was so good.
ALSO 2 SWITCHES!! GAY SWITCHES YAY!!

This book was wholly not for me.

I didn't vibe with the writing style off the bat, but I kept reading in hopes the characters would grow on me. They did not. The plot is very sparse and also obvious. I usually say insta-love/lust doesn't bother me in a romance, but this style of it absolutely does. The ratio of sex scenes to meaningful conversation (let alone plot and character development) was atrocious for my tastes. The fast pace of plot events and relationship milestones created a lack of gravitas I felt the moments and mood deserved.

This isn't a bad story if it's what you're looking for, but it's more along the line of fanfiction, written as though the characters and situations have been established outside of the work itself.

this is straight up pornography.
this series is really hit or miss. this, being the first book, felt like the author getting her footing in this genre.
Kip was a fun character to read. he was believably complex, motivated, and excitable. Scott was also complex, but his character arc happened too quickly. again, i am always disappointed when LGBT+ stories center around coming out. i understand it is a big deal for star athletes, but i wish there was some other big conflict to write the story around.
not much to say for this one besides HOLY SHIT THE ILYA CAMEOS WERE SO FUNNY!!! i was literally giggling, kicking my feet, twirling my hair at all the foreshadowing about Ilya’s eventual queer awakening/story. otherwise, a very fluffy story with a very happy ending.

This book gave me all the feels! The characters are so loveable and while the story was simple, I couldn’t put it down. The only reason it doesn’t get 5 stars is because I found the ending to be a little on the cringey side.

Fantastic and addictive! I finished this and then instantly downloaded the next one. Reid’s writing is enthralling, her sex scenes are both saucy and sweet and the banter is just perfect.

Spontaneously, I decided to buy this book as an ebook and then proceeded to read it over two days. It was certainly fun! But I also felt like the romance was developed waaaayyy too quickly, and I sometimes found myself wanting more conversations or a closer look at certain things in their lives - like Kip's job/school search, for example - instead of just smut every other page. It got a bit boring at times. Plus, Kip was a very infuriating character in the second half of the story, refusing to understand what was at stake for Scott and playing the poor victim despite having gone in the relationship knowing it would have to be kept a secret.

But it was a quick read, had (mostly) loveable characters, a surprising little amount of actual homophobia, and I also loved that Scott wasn't outed by anybody but was able to come out when he was ready.

this book actually almost made me cry, what the hell. kip & scott, these guys deserve the world and their love story filled me with so much happiness, it was  beyond sweet. the hockey element made this story feel even more compelling to me, and i can’t wait to read the rest of the books in this series.
