It is 1900's politics wrapped up in a kid's story. This books tackles, child abuse, sexism, women in the military, traditional family values, traditional gender roles and accidentally sex changes. Honestly it is so full of politics that it is hard to enjoy the story. Some of the values he had hold up, others are very dated. I would love to read again with a discussion group.

So much fun. Every page is unexpected. Tidbits of wisdom throughout.

I loved these as a kid - I would search the children's section of my small library hoping to come across one. Fun reading for the commute.

So this is only book two of the series (of fourteen books) and man is it already getting weird. It's hard to explain how bizarre the land of Oz is, but at least it's fun. Tip was a great character, and I'm excited that Princess Ozma has appeared, since she seems like a super interesting character. Jack Pumpkinhead was annoying, but I also get that this is a kids' book, so I'm not the intended audience. These are just fun, light reads and I'm having a lot of fun with them so far!

I'm so glad that I've decided to read this series. I would wager a good amount of money that they're all going to be five-star reads for me! It's fun to spend more time with the characters I fell in love with in the first, and even more fun to meet the new characters and travel to other corners of Oz. I'm seriously so excited to for the rest of this adventure!
Ehh... I should have left this book in my childhood where I had fond memories of it.
