I really enjoyed the movies when I watched them for the first time last year, I’ve been meaning to at least pick up the first book in the series to at least try it, and I’m glad I finally did. While I enjoyed it, I wasn’t quite prepared for how different it was from the movie! There were some elements that were the same, however it was still very different..and a little bit of a let down. But I did like it enough to go ahead and try and read the second book in the series. 3/5 Stars.

There are a lot of differences between the book and the movie...and unfortunately for the book, I like the movie's take better.

Still very entertaining though, and a nice quick read.

The Hiccup series was always one of my son's favourites when he was younger. I really enjoyed the films when they came out but remember my son saying that they were nothing like the books. Now, as my son has gone to Uni and out of a sense of nostalgia, I thought I'd read at least one of them, not having done so before.
I kind of enjoyed it but if I'm honest I think I prefer the films.

Never thought it would be so different from the movie but still I prefer the movie version over this

In this book people train dragons from the start and aren't in war with them just like they are in the movie

Astrid doesnt exist in this book, there are only boys,I hope she gets introduced in the next books

Hiccup can speak to dragons!!!

Toothless is the size of a terrible terror in this book

So if you wanna read this book just forget about the story of the movies, the story here is completely different and still I enjoyed it

I may be biased because I adore the movies and tv show but this book was fantastic.
It was so much fun to read.
It was funny and quirky. I loved all the little doodles and the names of some characters was hilarious. A perfect middle grade book.
Even though a lot of things are different from the movies and show I don't hate it. I can see why they changed things and I'm glad they did.
Don't get me wrong I love the book version too, it has its own great characteristics and is just as good as the movies and show.
I enjoyed every second of this read and I'm itching to read the rest of the series!

This is that rarest of situations: an instance when the movie was superior to the book... FAR superior to the book. I guess it must happen once in a while.

Cute story, different from the movie but that's fine. David Tennant does a great job narrating the audiobook.
