A well-rounded treatment of the life of a woman imprisoned. Pretty solid.

Another one from the Man Booker Prize Longlist it does a great job of making you empathize with characters that have in many cases done some pretty despicable things, while illuminating how the cruelty of modern prisons goes beyond being locked away from society.

I really struggled to want to finish this one. I listened to the audiobook version and the narration (read by the author) is really monotone, which doesn't help the lackluster story. The structure of the story is disjointed and never fully comes together. I wasn't attached to any of the characters and was glad when I was finished with it. I don't think it deserves all the accolades it is getting. Overhyped in my opinion.

A great and thought provoking dissection of life in prison and the system.
