Missing the children & teenagers Cazalet already. This chronicle is set at the beginning of the war. It's a delight to read, light despite plenty of family troubles and portrays young thoughts so well.

Second reading, pure comfort. Very sorry for Hugh, Sybil and family. Louise infuriating but fits with her parents. Fascinating watching characters having read the future novels so know what they have in store. Straight onto the next chronicle again.

Wonderful characterisation, and the voices of the children and young people are perfectly judged. Don't read this series for plot or action, but for the people that you will begin to feel you know.

Very much enjoying getting to know the Cazelets. This one is set in the early years of WW2 and the war is very much seen through the eyes of various members of the family. Clary has her own particular sadness to bear, Louise is trying to be an actress and the parents are showing us that parents are people too and fallible.

I’m loving the Cazalet Chronicles & absorbing the minutia of every day life of an ‘upper class’ family during WW2. This second book in the series Marking Time, though didn’t quite live up to the first for me. There is so much every day detail, even down to the mince for tea, that I did zone out a few times in the 600 pages. Still looking forward to number three though!
