This installment is really setting up the conclusion of this series to go out with a bang! So much is going on, I can't wait to see how it all comes together. As for this duology...THIS is how you write romance into a novel. I loved reading Asar's POV. He is so clearly head over heels for Mische in the sweetest way, without it always needing to be sexual. I don't even think Mische is the most remarkable character I've ever read about (sorry), but he makes her out to be someone so special that you can't help but believe him. I love them together!
Speaking of POVs, is love that this novel makes it very easy to tell the difference in the POV, beyond the chapter heading indication. What I mean is, the two voices were unique from each other. This isn't always the case for dual POV stories, so I think it is something the Broadbent does very well in her novels.
Broadbent's writing is of course as beautiful as ever. I will say in the beginning, I was starting to worry. There's more ways to describe things beyond the shape of lightning lol But it definitely improved throughout and became exactly what you expect from Broadbent. I particularly loved the dialogue from Acaeja near the end of the novel. So beautiful. Also, the theme of loving someone no matter their past mistakes., seeing them for all that they are and not just parts. So compelling for me.
I'm hoping the epilogue is an indication of whose story we will follow for the House of Blood duology. They are who I was hoping for and I will be extremely excited to read about the war from that POV!!!

I’ve always loved this author’s writing and storytelling. This book is no different. It is an excellent conclusion to Mische and Asar’s storylines and it sets up what sounds like will be an explosive conclusion to the series as a whole.
I really didn’t want to be one that would forgive Vincent for his previous actions but he definitely had a redemption arc with how hard he worked to help Mische. I’d love to get a novella about him and his remaining journey in the underworld.
I will also say that while I’ve not been a fan of Septimus during this series, the ending of the book? I now want his story and background. I think we are going to get a lot from him and I don’t think any of us are expecting what he is willing to do.
If you like vampires, magic, and excellent character growth then you absolutely need to read this series as a whole.
