Perfection

Ahhh... Where to start? The emotions that this book brought out in me were unreal. A. L. Jackson has this uncanny ability to make me cry. Every. Single. Time!
This story is beautiful. A perfect combination of love, drama, happiness and heartbreak. The tears were not just of sadness, but also of joy. This story is one of my favourites from A. L. Jackson. This woman writes the most beautiful books. The descriptive word is sheer brilliance. She is able to clearly implant the images, feelings and emotions into your imagination. That is just one of the reason she will always be one of my favourite author's.
I loved how this story is written from both Jared and Aly's perspective. The flashbacks are always written in third party, giving you the sense of detachment from the main storyline, and also allowing you see more from the supporting characters. I think this always gives a deeper insight, almost like watching a snippet of one of their home movies. The
All in all this book hit the spot for me. It is perfectly written and beautifully balanced.

2 stars - an okay read - only because those characters were amazing on the first book!

Did we really need another book?

The first book of the series would have been amazing if the author had squeezed in a couple of chapters about Jared and his family. That's how unnecessary this book was. Full of crying, and drama, and Jared feeling sorry for himself and  not good enough, a lot of I love yous - like A LOT! - and family drama, basically everyone hating him and him running away and punching things.

I'll forever love the first book but this... I don't know what this is. To be honest I was only reading just because I fell in love with these two people and I didn't want to let go but overall, the first book, cliffy and all, would have been fine.

description

One word to describe this book: FREEING. This is Jared's story. It's his story of grief, guilt, and forgiveness. A.L. Jackson has written an intensely emotional story that's left me blissfully empty from the release.

I usually prefer standalones to series, and believe the story should all fit in one book, but Come to Me Softly had to be written. The characters were introduced in Come to Me Quietly, and their backstory was laid out. In that book, Jared and Aleena suffered through a few painful situations, and overcame major hurdles, but the ending they were given was superficial. This book delved deeper and showed the true intensity of Jared’s struggles, and how even his devotion to Aleena couldn’t free him from his past. Ms. Jackson beautifully conveyed how grueling it is to let go of your guilt and to forgive yourself when you’ve made a devastating mistake. I felt like I was trapped inside of Jared's ribcage, suffocating from the chaos and pressure building within him. The way she wrote his anguish, and conveyed his pain, left me bruised. Aly could see that Jared was coming undone, and tried to be patient, hoping her love would help him heal. Watching these two struggles to hold on to their love was devastating, heartbreaking, and beautiful. Ms. Jackson has a way of showing the humanity in her characters, making you feel a deep empathy for them, a compassion that leaves you wholly affected by their struggles and triumphs.

On a technical note, the style of this book was consistent with the author’s previous work. Her writing style is heavy with interior monologue. The POV alternated between Jared and Aleena, and there were a few flashback scenes from their childhood, which were very sweet and poignant. I love books with multiple POVs and appreciate the stream of consciousness narration. But for those who prefer lighter, fast-paced reads, be warned, this book, and Come To Me Quietly might take a while to get into. Don’t let that stop you from reading this series though, it’s wonderfully written, deeply compelling, touching love story that will affect you and leave a mark.

I'm disappointed about this book. I really had high expectations, I loved the first book and was excited for this one. It wasn't terrible by any means but it definitely wasn't as good as it's counterpart, I felt like a third of the book could have been removed and I wouldn't have missed anything. I really do love their love but it was much too descriptive - so much fluff.

Sigh. I'm also going to say, and will probably get in trouble for it but I got a little tired of Jared's self loathing. Damaged boys are great but c'mon!

That being said, it was good, it just wasn't great :(

Jared was better in this book even though he was still a big mess... He made some bad moves but got it all sorted out this time around.

Come to Me Softly was much less dramatic than I anticipated, and so, I enjoyed it more than I expected. There were some things that were resolved a little bit too easily for my liking, but the overall story and character development was really good, and I am looking forward to reading the last book in this trilogy.
