This is a book in translation and there's an odd flow to it. The sentence structure is sometimes awkward and the dialogue is stilted. It took me out of the story.

I feel it should have ended at about 70%. It felt like I was being strung along.

I presume that this really helped Mr Dicker process his grief/loss; however, as the reader...

1. You can make a drinking game out of how often you read "Geneva"
2. I love a "not linear" read, but holy cow!
3. I also love a good twist or two, but (see above & holy ginzu knives!)

P.S. KB... reading challenge book... why I completed a two star read.  ;)

About 50 pages into reading this book I said aloud to the universe, "is this /supposed/ to be poorly written?" I hoped it would get better. It did not. I read this book in translation so I can't say whether the strange word choices, awkward sentence structure, and boring dialog were the fault of the writer or the translator, but either way it made for a disappointing reading experience. The plot is... fine. The characters make a lot of dumb decisions, and the book is about 200 pages longer than necessary, but I could have overlooked those issues if the writing was strong. Sadly, it was not.

A fantastic, smart, sprawling novel. Fans of Anthony Horowitz will love this book.
This is the kind of book that makes me want to read everything the author has ever written. Moving on to his most famous, Harry Quebert, next.
