4.5 stars for the historical version of Charlie's Angels!

Lady Olivia McLeod, the daughter of Duke and Duchess of Strathaven, along with her best friends, Lady Glory Cavendish and Miss Fiona Garrity are considered to be quite a unique trio, very spirited and quite unlike their fellow debutantes of the ton.

Twelve year old Livy meets Ben Wodehouse, the "infamous" Duke of Hadleigh a day before Hogmanay when her adventure ends up putting her life at risk. Hadleigh saves her and captures her heart. From thereon begins the tale of Livy's and Hadleigh's deep friendship that helps them pave through thick and thin. But Livy wishes for more.

My first book by Grace Callaway and I'm hooked already. I didn't know I needed a little bit of suspense in my historical romance until this book came along. I'm hoping for more enthralling cases in the upcoming books.
And I'm definitely very, very happy with the smut in this book. I can't believe that this was in a historical novel.

I had fun but also some of it was crazy and the age gap is really something I could only enjoy in a book

Not the worst book but I hated a lot of things about it. I don’t like a huge age gap but I try to overlook it in historical romances this one did not sit well with me at all. Olivia was a child since he knew her and how can you love someone like that who who’ve seen growing up? That’s disgusting. Hated when he called her little queen. The love scenes were disgusting and I hated how Olivia was intrigued as she saw Ben fucking another woman and decided she wanted him and loved him. Ew. Then she was suddenly into bdsm in the bedroom when she had zero idea about it. She was so stupid and willing to overlook everything Ben had done before and forgave him. For what? Because she loved him? Why? Because he saved her? I hated her mooning him for absolutely nothing. I did not like any of them.

Started off good but for some reason I just lost interest. I was bored with the story and really didn’t care much about any of the characters.

I did like the mix of romance and mystery/crime fighting. That was unique. The spice was also really good.

Overall it was pretty meh.

I really loved this, I could not put it down.

This story is basically Charlie's Angels in 1846 heavy on the romance. It was fun, a little too much on the nose with Charlie's Angels but still fun.

Normally I don't love super modern thought processes, ideas, characters, in historical romance novels. It takes me out of the historical setting too often for me to get immersed in the world. However, I didn't mind it so much here. I was having a good time so it wasn't too big of a deal for me.

I really liked Olivia's friends, there wasn't whole lot to separate them in my mind of which one is which in this first book but hopefully when/if they get their books they will have more differences where I can actually remember who is who.

I loved Olivia and Ben's relationship. She's 19, she's known Ben since he saved her at 12, but she didn't start feeling lust and love feelings until she saw him in the barn, when she's 18, being with a woman in the biblical sense. From then on she wanted Ben as more than just a friend and brother type figure. Problem is Ben is 32/33, friend of her father's, and is trying to protect her from his dark past and his "darker" sexual desires. Olivia, however, wants all that and is determined to get him to understand that she does love him, no matter what he did or does.

One thing, I wish we had less of, is how many times the barn moment between Ben and the other woman was mentioned and brought up. I didn't mind that Olivia saw Ben and the woman at 18, it was a full year before anything romantic happened between Olivia and Ben, but I don't need it brought up as often as it was. I get it, that moment awoke Olivia's desires but I don't need it referred to so many times.

Another thing that bugged me was Charlie. Again, I understand she'd been burned but she kept pushing her views about men on Olivia and her friends. I got frustrated with her and just wanted her to butt out.

Also, I liked that while this book is connected to other books that the author has written, it's perfectly fine to read without reading those other books. I appreciated that. I wasn't lost, I was curious if other characters we met were in other series/books but it didn't bog down this books story or characters. Not a lot of author's can pull that off as seamlessly.

Overall, this was a fun historical romance with a little more spice than the average historical romance. This is the first by Grace Callaway I've read but it won't be my last.
