I was going to DNF at 44% after only picking it up to see if the writing improved from the first book (it did not), then started again while getting over Covid and needing something to read that wouldn’t take a lot of brain power.
The big reveals were underwhelming as I guessed them while reading book one. Speaking of which, it was essentially the same story with slightly different beats, that then literally ended the same way. This book felt like it needed at least two more rounds of editing, and is overwritten in a way that seems like the author is trying too hard.
The singular romance scene is fine, but I hope we find phrases other than “most private areas” to describe genitals in the future.
Will I continue the series? Maybe in a couple of months after the frustration dies down to see if my new predictions end up being correct like they were from book 1 to book 2.

Just absolutely love this series and this author. Her way with words, her world building and character is guiding us incredible. I honestly had no idea where the second book would take me and good goddess, was I blown away!
