I liked this more overall than the first book. I think the world building got better and some decent plot twists. Once I hit around the middle, I couldn't stop reading and then by the end I started to get annoyed by Nox. Maybe that's the point.
I did not enjoy some aspects, and it's hard to put it in words but I wish some... situations were handled differently or not so ..brushed off? I can never get the spoiler thing right so sorry it's vague! There's just something how Nox and Amaris's relationship while diminishing their other relationships that bothers me. I will read the third book though.

This series is everything I could ever want in a high fantasy, the magic, monsters, fae, and world are so well sculpted for the reader. It's spicy, humorous, adventurous, and tense in all the best possible ways. Every time the perspective switched between Nox and Amaris I was frantic to keep going until they found each other again while at the same time rooting for them exploring their bisexuality. The characters' motivations, strengths, flaws, relationships, and emotions make them feel almost tangibly real. This book was heartbraking, Piper, how dare you but it's so good I'll forgive you anyway. Also, I've never read a book series with better representation for people under the bi umbrella. I wish I'd had stories like this growing up as a young queer girl. I am feral for these books.
