Sooooo….
This book was good but not great like the first book. There was so much potential for growth but it all came back to the neediness of Amaris/Nox. In the first book it was stellar but as the characters grew in this installment it felt forced and out of the blue for them to be suddenly needy of each other and to dismiss the others they’d developed feels for. It was such a decapitation that was a little gutting.
Gad and Amaris had incredible chemistry even though it grew exhausting to run through their bicker banter about the same thing over and over. I’m actually rooting for them. They’re probably the reason I’m going into book 3. That, and seeing how Ceres and Moira duke it out as if this is Mordor vs Middle Earth.
I was incredibly surprised by the ending. It wasn’t because I didn’t expect it. I did. It was on the predictable side. I just didn’t expect it to be so GOT. lol.

Not interested in the story, feels like a collection of chapters and not a cohesive narrative

Bummer, everyone lost any sense of maturity in this book and it was so annoying. Multiple times one page would say “I have no friends” and on the literal next page “I love these people I’m with”. The romance tropes were annoying, the inconsistency was annoying, everything was annoying.

Another fun entry into this world. The world building in this novel builds beautifully on the first. The characters grow, but not in a linear way. The story is solid. 5/5

I devoured this book. I wish I hadn’t read it so quickly but I couldn’t help it. I needed to know what happened to all my new friends!! I love these characters and I love that Piper CJ turns all stereotypes on their head. Fantasy books too often have the damsel in distress or questionable love stories…this weaves in consent, resilience, divine feminine rage, and women empowerment in on mythical tale. Can’t wait for #3!
