i agree with what another person wrote in that  i feel like sometimes more context was needed? sometimes Molly delves into memories with most of the context, but not enough where i feel l cant not sympathise 100% with her. but in other cases i also feel she repeats/emphasises things too much to overcompensate her guilt of being a bad daughter .
ultimately a reminder of our mortality, and puts into perspective that company of our friends/families are not guaranteed

When you are the child of an alcoholic, you often have a morbid curiosity about other children in the same boat. Molly Jong-Fast discusses her mother's alcoholism with honesty (at times almost painful to read), humor, and a kindness that I confess is beyond me when I think about my dad. So many of her emotions and observations resonated with me and that makes me feel less alone. And when you're the kid of an alcoholic, you often feel very, very alone.

This memoir also touches on a lot of the things that people 40 and over face with grace and humor: death, one's own mortality, aging parents, loved ones with health care problems, striving to be a good parent when you didn't see it modeled at home. It also is a fascinating look at what it's like to be the child/grandchild of someone who is (or was) very famous, watching your relative become more concerned with being famous than doing the things that make you famous.

Seemed really slow. Would be better as a long article or a short story.
