What an epic read for an epic literary institution.
The Marvel Encyclopedia is a reference book documenting all major characters and events from the Marvel comics.
For some reason, I decided to read it cover to cover. It was definitely interesting, but I’m not sure how much of it I actually retained. I’m sure I’ll be referencing it a lot over the years though as I keep reading comics and enjoying the additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

It's exactly what it claims it is, a beautifully illustrated comprehensive guide of all the characters in the Marvel Universe. I especially loved comparing the comic versions to the MCU and how their storylines differ – I’m hoping that’s how the What If? Series on Disney + incorporates as well as the What If? Comic series.
Also there were some amazing characters that I adored, ones I hadn’t heard of before and whose comic series I would like to buy, especially the Strange Tales series, anything with Dr Strange automatically gets a win from me but all the Journey into the Unknown stuff (and those story lines similar) sounds wild.

A must read if you’re into marvel movies but haven’t really read the comics. It goes in depths about different characters. I hope x men and the fantastic four are in the mcu soon and that Bucky leads the thunderbolts.

The ultimate encyclopedic book for any fan of Marvel.
I must say, I really enjoyed reading through this. For many people, it's simply not the type of book you read from start to finish. Rather, it's an especially great coffee table book to have sitting at home so that when friends come over and we get to talking about characters from the Marvel Universe (or multiverse or omniverse or whatever it is these days), then this is the perfect reference guide.
I, on the other hand, that will sit down and read this book from front to back. And I did just that. It did take me nearly three months to pore over every single entry, examine the details of each individual character (complete with their height, weight, home base, and superpower), and stare in awe at the beautiful artwork. This book truly is an exceptional piece of work. I will admit that there were a few minuscule errors here and there throughout the book (text overlapping with images, oddly arranged text and images), but those in no way diminish the quality of the book. I wouldn't even remember where they were now that I'm done.
Not being a reader of the comics, I feel like I learned so much more about the Marvel universe. Sure I could have just spent some time online reading fan theories, wikipedia pages, and blogs galore, but nothing beats a physical book. I'm sure that's why anyone would be reading this review on goodreads anyway, amirite?
A great book for any fan of everything Marvel.

It is an interesting Encyclopedia. But there's a few minor errors in punctuation and spacing.

A brilliant and detailed guide for most of the super hero and villain characters from the Marvel comic book universe. A must have for fans!

Does exactly what it says on the tin: provides an extensive (if inevitably incomplete and ever more out of date, given its 2010 publishing date) account of characters and events in the Marvel Universe. It's certainly a solid effort at the subject, though if what you actually want is exhaustive and up to the minute information on Marvel, you'd be better off hitting up the online wiki. Get this if what you want instead is a big old coffee table book of Marvel stuff.

this was really informative and fun, it’s an easy way for someone to get into the comic marvel universe without having to wonder where to start.
