Not a great fan of the ones that are from another's point of view. Also, didn't buy some of the explanations.

Another Poirot book read. I read these books in portuguese or else I would never read anything in my native language.
Some Poirot books are great and others and interesting. There are few that I didn't enjoy. I think the only one was The Big Four.
In this tale Poirot arrives at the scene of the crime only a third of the book and Captain Hasting doesn't appear at all.
I personally enjoy Captain Hastings narration but we work with what we have.
A nurse is hired by a archaeologist to take care of his wife not because she is sick but because she of mental health. She is receiving some letters from the brother of her previous husband. Eventually she is killed and Poirot arrives at the scene. And it seems that someone from the expedition is the culprit and everyone has it's motifs.
As I learn, Agatha Christie was married to archeologist so this novel but be a special one in her career. I enjoyed the novel and it's a good one. But the ending is not as solid as other novels by her.

Initially i was not excited about the setting. I prefer cold climate atmosphere always. But after the story went on, the writing was just so good that I didn't realize that i enjoyed it. The investigation went quite fun too. We're not completely in the dark, although later at the end apparently we WERE in the dark, as Poirot has kept a lot to himself. The ending was so long. It took almost 20% of the book. It was told in a very structured way and I like it, but it made it so long. Idk if it needed to be that long. But i'm actually quite satisfied with the reveal. Most of it made sense, with the exception of how did some people did some things in the past (how did Mr. Leidner took his current identity with a different face? and how did he do his job as an archeologist if he was actually not one? )
The main character of this book is the ethereal beauty that is Mrs. Leidner. Everyone in this book has a lot to say about her, that she loves power and manipulating people, etc. But the readers were never shown that. It's always people TELLING us about that. And they didn't even provide examples. Like what did she do that makes you think that? What's the drama what's the tea? These people are terrible gossips.
Othe small complaints:
- Agatha Christie would NOT euphemize in any way if she thinks you're ugly. She will say it and she will add a description which animal you reminded her of. Pig? Frog? Goat?
- There are some sexist remarks and microagression towards poc in this book. What's new.
- There are a lot of "he was silent for a minute or two and then he went on saying ....," in the middle of a conversation, by several different characters. 1-2 minutes of silence in a convo IS LONG. I think she meant a few seconds.
- There are 2 exciting cameos in this book, especially for me as a muslim. I'll cover it up so it'll be a surprise for anyone who haven't read it:
1. The cameo of "Bismillahirrahmaanirrahim" lmaooo i was like whattt bismillah mentionedd
2. A short reference to Murder on the Orient Express! It happened after the event in this book, when Poirot went back to England.
