Was hard to get into. Had to start over several times, listened by audiobook. Pretty good storyline altogether

This book played out like a typical mystery-cop movie. The multiple POV's showed a much bigger picture of the whole story. I found myself wishing this book was longer, though, because the multiple POV made it so you were still learning basic information about the characters when the book was over halfway through, leading to shallow connections with the characters (other than Keller, of course, who's pregnant and involved in a murder investigation so that's always nerve-wracking). The overall story was very interesting, with a lot of action and surprises in the last quarter. The writing style was straight forward and reminded me of the voice-overs of retired cops explaining their cases in shows/movies (you know, cigar in the corner of their mouth, sitting cross-legged on a velvet armchair, gazing into the air). Finlay writes this trope excellently and I will be returning to this author when I need a story like this again.

On NYE 1999, three high school students were murdered while working at Blockbuster. There is one survivor, while the suspect flees and never returns. Fast forward 15 years, 4 teenagers working at an ice cream shop are also attacked with only one survivor. Could this be the suspect returning 15 years later, or is it a copycat killer?

Alex Finlay gets me every time! This was such an intriguing storyline with multiple gasp inducing moments. There were things I didn’t see coming, and I love when thrillers still surprise me!

Entertaining but kind of predictable

This book was a little slow to start for me, mostly because I was lacking motivation when I started reading it. But it picked up, had a few little plot twists that kept me going and wanting to see what had happened next. The ending bummed me out, only because I felt like some of the deaths were unnecessary to the story. I wanted to read this from a tik tok recommendation, thinking it was more horror based, but it gave me more thriller vibes than anything, so keep that in mind.

This was ok—an average thriller, and the mystery wasn’t particularly gripping—but it gets extra points for its compassionate depiction of public defenders.

This book was fine. I guess the thing I appreciate most about it is that it seemed to draw from real true crime events. I'm shocked that it has such a high rating when it is decidedly mediocre. Also, if I never hear the phrase "[they] made no reply" again, it will be too soon.

Wow, that first chapter had me hooked right away! This one definitely kept me guessing right up until the very end!
