I really enjoyed this book. Vera comes from a wealthy family of socialites however, she knows she is much more and doesn't fit the mold. Enter her alter-ego is Vee Swann, a reporter.
Vee learns some shocking information after her fathers death and goes uncover to find answers. She discovers the history and tale of the Hope Diamond and how it will play into her investigation.

It was a nice light read. It touched on the inequality how women were treated in the early 1900s. The novel held my attention without being annoying or stressful and I really enjoyed the ending. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this one but I was pleasantly surprised.

Solid 4 stars.

I am a fan of this author. I was intrigued to read this new book about the Hope Diamond. It is the most expensive and probably most famous diamond in the world too. People might instantly think of the Heart of the Ocean diamond that bears similar resemble from the movie, Titanic.

I liked Vera. She was a bit of a feministic. She had a job in a male dominant world back in the nineteen hundreds as a reporter. For her to go undercover to try and expose a fraud was very risky of her. Yet, I applaud Vera for not being afraid to find the truth.

However, I do have to agree with some other readers on the fact that this book read more modern than historical fiction. That is one of the things that I like about reading an MJ Rose book is the historical fiction aspect. Where I can be transported back in time and really embody the characters. While, I still did that, it just felt a bit disjointed. Still a fan of this author.

If you love historical novels you need to get your hands on M.J. Rose's latest novel Cartier's Hope. I will admit that it can be a tad long winded at times, but the story is solid and paints a beautiful- jewel themed picture that will not disappoint. Vera and her delightful secret pen name Vee Swann will make you proud of being a woman. She does not stand down from a fight and does anything to bring justice into the world.
I would like to thank the Publishers, the author and NETGALLEY for this book. It was given to me in exchange of an unbiased review.

I was disappointed with this. Picking up a historical romance novel I was seeking an escape. I got a rather bitter heroine, men-are-the-worst feminism, and tangents into politics that don’t serve to advance the story. Several chapters added to the worldly stress I was looking for a brief respite from.
That said I am giving it four star because it was well written and the bones of the story were fascinating. The author also seemed to have a very good grasp on the historical setting of the story. I don’t know that I will look to her books again, but personal taste doesn’t make it a bad book.

Bad rehash of Wilke Collins "Moonstone" .
The Moonstonenis an excellent classic. This, not so much.

Historical fiction and very fun (a nice break from WWII historical fiction)! Vera is a delight and a character that makes you "hope" for a sweet ending!

This book reminded me of why I fell in love with reading. I loved the glamour and history of the Hope Diamond and the precious jewels that surrounded her. There was just enough mystery, surprise, and romance to hook me and keep the pages turning. And I especially loved the main character in her bravery, wisdom, and being a role model for all strong, independent women. Brava M.J. Rose!
