As a series, Y:The Last Man is a hell of an accomplishment, but I would be lying if I said a specific choice made in this last book didn't colour my impression of the series as a whole. Okay, from a 'congratulations, you produced an emotional impact!' perspective, I understand the choices made. Even from a statement about long-running toxic cycles of violence, which could be heavily attached to the patriarchy, I get the choices made.
But between this and Saga, I am so very, VERY over Vaughan fridging the love interest to further the plot.
Having consumed much of it, I'm now going on an extended break from his work.

I loved this series. Fascinating concept to begin with. Interesting character dynamics. Love Agent 355. Hated the end.

There was a lot of potential to wrap up Y The Last Man in a messy way but felt like a poignant and touching end to the collection. Individual chapters to cover many characters and a wide range of locations and plots leads to a well worked finale. Some parts did feel a little rushed or unexplained but think that’s to leave you to decide their outcomes yourselves. Every character has a renaissance of sorts in Paris and the final shot is a great one. Although Y did tiptoe the line when it came to some of its language and views on misogyny, all in all, it was an enjoyable and original series with some great artwork and equally good characters.

This series had a lot of failings...but it sure does manage to stick the landing.
