I've never had a book make me cry and make me nauseous and make me text my best friend freaking out this many times. I feel quiet and hopeful but so, so sad. An extremely accurate portrayal of abuse, including manipulation, gaslighting, invalidating the victim's feelings, etc, and the journey to recovery. Five stars. Ten stars. I will never forget this book.

2.5 stars ⭐️ I wanted so much more from this book. I expected more reckoning, realizations, processing of trauma, reflection… there was some of that but I felt like I was mostly reading endless encounters between them that made me feel really icky and sad and uncomfortable. She was in denial until the very end and there was no resolution or closure or anything. Just sadness. Maybe that was the point, but I wanted more. The ending felt wrong and unfinished.

I debated about the rating. It would actually be 4.5 stars if there was such a thing. It is an incredible exploration of how one person can manipulate another, and complicated by the teacher / student and further by the man over girl/woman. It definitely kept my attention as the story developed. Only criticism - as others have said - it’s a bit too long it drags a little in places.
