It's interesting how Ibsen creates women who are free thinkers. They're controversial and independent. I'm not a fan of all the beating around the bush that all the characters do. Even when the truth is revealed, it's not really said outright. Mrs. Alving is incredibly admirable for everything she's done for Oswald, even if he doesn't really see it. Manders is just a self-righteous ass.

Short and punchy.  An interesting slice of life that leaves you thinking long after you're done reading it.

Very quick read. I thought it was very interesting and is very poignant when talking about the ghosts of the past and how the past is never completely gone even if we've left it behind.

Ghosts is a thought provoking play. It chiefly highlights the filthy image of the then Norwegian society. The hypocrisy and deception in the air of duty and morality in such society is better portrayed through the characters of Mrs. Helen Alving and Pastor Manders. The play openly showcases the patriarchal dominance through the characters of late Mr Alving and Jakob Engstrand. Regina's character vividly displays the struggle of the depressed class to climb up the social hierarchy by hook or crook. Overall, this play to me is a great piece of social tragedy.

A bleak piece of writing. A sad life, lived to fulfil a notion of duty. Love?

Overall, an enjoyable play, touching on some Gothic and suspenseful themes.
