Hmm… the concept was interesting. I felt like the narrative couldn’t recognize that Dava being an absentee mother and also a legendary philanthropist could both be true at the same time.

I really struggled with the writing style that felt very heavy handed as I could feel the author guiding me at every point. Even at 30 pages the plot seems fairly obvious and the dialogue is both unnatural and infuriating.

4.75:  Although the first part of this book was hard to get into especially with it's setting and the state of the world. Once it got to the emotions and the true hook of it all it had me by the heart. It had the same type of feel as Daisy Jones & The Six getting to know Dava's back story and the impact that she made. Strong female characters not wanting to be defined by a spouse. 

The queer representation and the overall acceptance that family is messy. The mark that you will leave on the world. The pop culture references. The fact that know we have layers and we are separate from our parents that they are their own people outside of being our parents. Once it got to that and past the shallowness of money and got to know their personalities it was perfect.
