Why I went from the first book in this series to the last, I can only say: I was craving a pirate story!!!

This book had a lot of conflict about half of which was just the main characters not communicating? Not a fan of that but otherwise I adored this. Definitely going to go through more of the Knights Miscellany books.

The first two thirds were 5 stars, but the last third let it down.
I loved loved loved these characters to start with. Smart, determined, curious heroine who wasn't annoying. Commanding, brooding hero with daddy issues, but not a total asshole. They were absolutely great together too.
The settings were also really good. How often to you get a jungle scene in a historical romance? The background of Bolivar's Revolution was also unique. And a von Humboldt shoutout! The ship section was sufficiently nautical. And there was a bulldog.
I also liked that the main source of conflict was between the couple and about the relationship, not outside sources.
However the last third set in London dragged the whole thing down. Both the hero and heroine were acting so stupid. Just fucking talk to each other already!
I would try another book by this author, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to fill in this series.
