I both deeply love and really dislike this book. I probably wouldve rated it 3, but Nikolai alone deserves a star ⭐️ Hoping Ruin & Rising is better

I really enjoyed the story, just like the first book, I was excited to continue reading Alina's story.
However, compared to the first one, this second book felt a little flatter...
The first third of the book was similar to the first one, there was action, the Darkling was still chasing Alina and Mal, it felt like the plot was getting somewhere interesting...

But then Alina realised there were actually three amplifiers, she got the 2nd one, got to the palace with Nikolai, and then it was just them getting ready for the battle... to me, nothing was happening, it got boring, the Darkling wasn't here anymore, just ''preparing'' for battle but never actually attacking or fighting...
And the only action in the book was really just concentrated in the last 2 chapters in what felt like a mess... Like the author just wanted to be done with it and go on to the 3rd and last book.

So overall, I would say the plot was great and I'm still courious to know what's gonna happen to Alina, Mal, the Darkling and Nikolai... But if the 3rd book is as slow as the 2nd one, with little to no action thoughout most of the book I'm afraid I'll get bored and maybe have more difficulties finishing it...

Essentially nothing happened in this book, and it's the longest book in the series.

Continuing the Shadow and Bone trilogy, this one right here. It made me so sad. I mean yes the first book how the amplifier was taken tore me to pieces, but something about this one just wrecked my heart. I still loved this entire book from start to finish and would gladly take the emotional wreckage over and over again.

I liked the first one better. This one seemed kind of drawn out and it was a lot darker towards the end, but it was still good. I’ll definitely be reading the third one.
