Standalone or Series: It’s part of a series, but can be read as a standalone.

HEA: Yes.

Trope: Fated Mates.

Would I recommend this book? Wolf Trouble brings me back to my love of the Paranormal Romance genre and werewolves. I would recommend this book to PNR and UF readers out there. If you enjoy books with werewolves that work in SWAT and are all sexy and alpha, this book/series is for you. I give this book 4.5 stars and can’t wait to catch up on this series. I can’t believe it took me this long to read the second book in this series. I love Paige Tyler’s books.

Summary

Khaki Blake is a police officer and very good at what she does. But lately her job has seemed to be harder than normal and her ex who is also on the force, starts acting up she stands on her own and while out protecting a civilian she almost loses her life in the process and that night would change her forever, because she is now a wolf and she doesn't even fully realize what she is becoming. She is offered a job on the SWAT team, all male, and even though she knows that she is in for a tough time and will have to prove herself, she also knows it's the right move for her. Xander Riggs is the Senior Corp of the team and the man in charge when it comes to going on missions. The last thing that Xander wants is to have a woman on the team. He is comfortable with who is on the team and doesn't need another "newbie". But his boss forces him to accept Khaki, and so he will but he refuses to be easy. From the first moment he meets her, he senses something more, a connection one he has never felt or imagined before. He tries to ignore it, but soon both Xander and Khaki will have to come to terms with what they are both feeling for each other. And they both know that they are "the one" for each other, the problem...they work on the same team and that is breaking so many rules. Will they be able to keep their desire for each other a secret, and will their bond be a weakness or a strength they can use against their enemies?

The Hero

Xander has always served in the military and is proud of what he has accomplished, but he loves being the leader of the SWAT team. He is dang good at what he does and embraces his wolf fully. Before the turning, he served on different teams, but they weren't loyal to what they were doing and struggled with coming to terms with certain issues he had to face. Xander is strong and lethal, powerful and fully love what he has become. He is tough on his team but is also fair. Xander is a hero that you come to admire from the beginning, and he is pretty tough but at the beginning of the story you see how tough he is on Khaki is really Xander trying to resist the desire he feels for her. But what I loved most about Xander was how handles any situation that he was dealt with. He was calm and cool, unless it came to Khaki than all bets were off.

The Heroine

Khaki Blake, ever since she was little wanted to be a cop, her family was always supportive of her choice of career. She wanted to save lives and make a true difference. Khaki stands on her own, and is so kick ass. She has recently broke off a relationship with a fellow officer, who used her and was manipulative. And on the one night she needed help from fellow officers, they stood her up because they didn't want to get on his bad side. This one night she almost lost her life, but she also gained her wolfish side and was able to get a job offer to the SWAT team. What was most fun about Khaki was her spirit and she never gave up on what she wanted. These wolfish men really put her through the ringer, but she passes every test and shows them she is no weak female....she can fight and be a true pack member. She handles the truth pretty good and I love how she just accepts who she is and embraces who she is becoming. As the reader I came to really admire her as the heroine, because even though she can fight with the best of them, she also has many feminine qualities and has a personality that is very easy to relate with.

Plot and Story Line

Wolf Trouble is the second in the newest series by Paige Tyler and boy was it a blast!! I had a ball of action and sexy fun with this book. Of course every time I read this author, I just can't ever get enough of her. She writes in the certain way that completely drags you into the story and has the reader completely enthralled. I always have to make sure that I have plenty of time to read her so there are no disruptions...she is the type of author that you would stay up ALL night reader her book. I love it when this happens, the only problem I had with this book, it ended way TOO soon!! I just soaked up everything that happened in this book. The couple here are quite fun together. Both the hero and heroine have strong personality and when they first meet, they clash. They have an instant sexual attraction, but they just ignore it at first, and act like they don't like each other when they would love to get into bed together. What I liked was that they used self-control, and it wasn't a story where there is insta lust and they act on it. Once they start communicating honestly with each other, they build up a friendship before they get all smexy with each other. Which I definitely admired, seeing an emotional bond form before the physical one did. A fun aspect of the story was the other members of the team and how they embraced Khaki on their team. The commadarie and acceptance is instantly placed from the moment she starts with the team, and even though they are tough and bad ass, they are fair to her. The teasing and jokes and the playful attitude they had was contagious and made me wish I could jump right into the book myself and be Khaki. This was a romance which was engaging, playful, and intense. Had the perfect blend of romance and action.

The Cover

I adore this cover, because it's so intense and raw that matches the story. It evokes the action and mystery of the story and look at those lovely muscles ladies? Hot and Sexy!!

Overall View

Wolf Trouble is a intense and dramatic paranormal romance that will have you on edge from the beginning. It draws you in immediately into a story of passion, action and sexy wolves that work as a pack and are a special ops team!! EXTRAORDINARY!!

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

This is the second book in Paige Tyler’s SWAT series. I love the idea of a SWAT that is built entirely of werewolves. In the first book, Tyler only gave a few pieces of werewolf lore. This was something I wanted more of in the first book, Hungry Like the Wolf. I was hoping for more information. Her werewolves are different from many that I’ve read. They are turned during a traumatic event, such as a shootout when you’re in the police force or maybe in the military and injured at war. One thing we didn’t know if book one, did female werewolves exist. This is quickly answered in Wolf Trouble.

Khaki works for a police department in Washington state. She also had previously dated another member of the force. After a bad breakup, she found herself looking into some bad situations without any backup. Her ex convinces other cops not to help her out. She almost gets killed on night and suddenly she starts to notice differences in herself.

Dallas SWAT commander Gage Dixon is given crap for the fact that he doesn’t have any women on his team. He is told that he must add a woman to the team. He agrees, but only if it is one entirely of his choosing. He has been keep his eye on Khaki for a while and planning on offering her a spot, the timeline just has to get moved up a bit. This is the only way he is able to keep his werewolf team and keep the upper brass happy with adding a woman onto the team.

Khaki is put into Xander’s unit. There is definitely something between the two. However, with Khaki’s past luck with dating a co-worker and Xander also being her boss, it makes things very awkward. They both fight the attraction. Xander is also a lot harder on Khaki than he would be on someone else because of how much he is fighting the attraction.

One thing I loved seeing tackled in this story was the idea of forcing a woman onto a team just to meet some sorta quota. Khaki is told that she is filling this need for a woman on the team, which really makes her feel like she doesn’t deserve to be there. With the way Xander was acting, that only makes things worse. Gage was quick to point out that he was planning on asking her and that this just moved the timetable. I don’t think any woman (or even a minority, though I can’t speak for them), wants to know that they got the job because they were filling a quotient. Women want to know that they were the best fit for the job and were just given an equal opportunity to get that job.

Narration
Once again, Abby Craden did a great job with the narration. I love her different voices for the characters. She has great pacing and tone. I do recommend her as a narrator. I’m currently listening to two series with her as the narrator and really enjoy both of them.

I like to thank Tantor Audio for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

A girl werewolf!!! So much fun!

I had a little bit of trouble with character consistency in this one and felt several acted out of character at times. But this is a fun, escapist romantic suspense series about werewolf cops so I'm willing to overlook that and continue to enjoy these crazy stories. I hope the next one is about Becker or Cooper.

To be completely honest, I love Tyler's other books much more. But that is mostly because I am not a fan of the boss/ employee and hidden romance tropes. I love Khaki and Xander and I was so happy that we get to see so much of Mack in this book too!!!

What I really want is for us to meet Khaki's sisters as they must have the shifter blood in them too and maybe one of them could be one of the other men's The One... 🤞

Series: SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team #2
Rating: 4 stars - It was really good

When werewolf Khaki Blake is recruited to the Dallas SWAT team Senior Corporal Xander Riggs isn’t happy. Not because he doesn’t think women can do the job, but because he can’t control himself around her.

Khaki and Xander had instant attraction from the very first sniff of each other's scent. Khaki is a tough woman who is looking for a fresh start. She is a newly turned werewolf so she struggles to understand all the changes that are happening to her and how to utilize them. She was just a great heroine and I really liked her. Also, I really am glad that we do have a female werewolf in book two because it was a question that I had after reading the first book.

Xander is a grumpy wolf. He isn’t great at showing his feelings and for a while Khaki thought he hated her. I loved seeing this grumpy wolf struggle with his feelings and fall in love. Also, I loved that he was willing to help her learn and control her wolf, even if it meant he couldn’t keep her at a distance. He really was a great man, once he let someone in anyways.

Overall, this was a wonderful sequel. I really enjoyed the progression of Khaki and Xander’s relationship. It was filled with pinning, tension, and action packed battles. I just loved it and their inability to keep their hands off each other. I can’t wait to see who falls in love next.

Trigger Warnings: Khaki is stalked by her controlling ex-boyfriend.

Wolf Trouble is the second installment in the SWAT series by Paige Tyler and it was just as action packed and sexy as the previous.

The Dallas SWAT team has always been alpha male and that is exactly how Senior Corporeal Xander Riggs prefers it. Brought into the DPD offices, Gage and Xander are confronted by people invested in the image of the SWAT team. It seems that the all male SWAT team may not be the case for much longer...

When Gage was first established as the Commander of the SWAT team he handpicked all his members looking for specific traits: strength, speed, loyalty and a particular werewolf gene. Handpicking them in such a way prevented any outside interference as the SWAT team could be completely open with one another and never hide or fear being discovered. Now with the Chief of Police, a human resources manager, and a lawyer breathing down their necks to place a women on the squad Gage has no choice but to accept their proposal; however, he will choose his own female SWAT member that he hand picks and fits all the requirements to belong in the SWAT and the Pack.

Khaki is a police officer in upstate Washington State. After breaking off her relationship with Jeremy, a head honcho in the police department, she was given the shaft in her department, as no one wanted to cross Jeremy. Because of this, three months ago she called for backup and never received it resulting in brutal shootout where she was forced to rescue a victim and defined herself against the criminals. That night was also she "changed." Since then, she hasn't really been able to identify exactly what has happened only that she is faster, stronger, heals rapidly and can remember every scent she comes across.

In comes Gage Dixon with an explanation she can't comprehend and an offer she can't refuse. Realizing she has no future in Washington, she accepts the job offer with the hopes of starting a new life with people like her. The only problem is her Squad Leader, Xander Riggs, whom she is immediately attracted too and who immediately tries to reassign her to the other squad….

Xander Riggs could not understand Gage's decision to allow a female officer into the SWAT team but when he finds out she is a werewolf he considers that this may be good for the team. However, it is not good for his self-control because as soon as she steps in the room he can't get her scent out of his mind and does all he can to keep his distance.

Soon Khaki and Xander realize their attraction is mutual and they can't deny themselves any longer. However, being in law enforcement they are not allow to have relations with subordinates so they are forced to keep their relationship a secret. But the biggest flaw in that plan: the Pack has no secrets…

Khaki is the newest female werewolf member of the SWAT team. In order to be accepted into both the SWAT and the Pack she must first prove herself. I truly enjoyed Khaki's story as it brought to light real life issues with her dating issues around Jeremy and how he was out to ruin her career after breaking things off. On hindsight, she should have known not to get involved with someone in the office because it almost always leads to a disaster. Now when she goes down to Dallas, well to be honest she doesn't learn. She ends up falling for Xander and I was kind of like "Again? Are you serious?" Anyway, I will give them a pass because they are "The One" for each other. Though I enjoyed Khaki, I much preferred Mac from the first book as she was much more stubborn and headstrong than Khaki seemed to be. The one thing I particularly enjoyed about Khaki is her willingness to jump into any incident, regardless of the danger, in order to save the innocents.

Xander is a Squad Leader and when a women is thrown onto his team he is thrown for a loop. Not only has a women never been on the SWAT before; but also, Xander can't keep her scent from permeating his every thoughts. Xander's character was a fun read as it was very comical watching him battle his sexual tensions around Khaki. You could tell from the beginning that he was attempting to win an impossible battle but he continued to try until the end when he realized she is "The One" and screw everyone else he is doing what he knows is right because they are destined to be together.

I think the most intriguing part was how the author change the storyline by introducing the fact that Khaki had never shifted before. It was a unique twist that kept making you curious as to when, how or if her shifting abilities would ever emerge. Funny enough the person she turned to for help was Xander whom she thought disliked her but instead proved to thoroughly enjoy her company and created a bonding experience that would grow into something more.

I saw this book featured on Netgalley and after learning it was the second in the series, I immediately purchased Hungry Like the Wolf, devoured it and then requested Wolf Trouble hoping I would get approved. Luckily I did because I did not want to wait until August to read the next in the series! I truly enjoy this series so far as I love the action packed suspense the reader is immersed in when reading. I also can't help but dream about all 16 shitless SWAT werewolves playing volleyball...

Though considered SWAT #2, this could easily be read as a standalone, but it will be worth your while to read the first because once you do, you won't want to put this series down!

Now the wait begins for the next in the series...I hope it's Cooper!

2.5 stars. Standard PNR with insta-love between werewolves when they meet 'the One'. Enjoyed the fact that the heroine was a competent police officer but couldn't get past the unfortunate choice for her name - Khaki. My apologies if this is an actual name (an it is your name) but to me that just brings to mind cargo pants, not a strong, sexy woman.
