Just as White's training of Gos, when things seem to get interesting, there's always a setback and the book gets back to a frustrating plateau.

There are some real gems of philosophy and observation to be found in this one. Although, most of it will not be of interest to anyone who is not actively pursuing falconry.

A very well written account of a half-assed attempt to man a Goshawk by the author of The Once and Future King. The author seems preoccupied, peculiar and cruel. I didn't really understand this book until I read Helen MacDonald's H is for Hawk (q.v.).

Fueling my ornithological passions, and making me want to read The Once and Future King again, or at least the first part, for all of the falconry references.

I enjoyed the first quarter of the book and found the book to be a good insite into falconry. However i found the way the information was given to the reader and the writing style frustrating. The author went on a number of tangents that I felt were unnecessary and made the book a slog.
