Basically a perfect picture book. Absolutely stunning illustrations that make sunrises and sunsets the most beautiful backdrops of all time. I love how facts are interspersed throughout the text to give more backstory for older children who are interested. Love the narrative and excellent back matter.

I guess I never realized how interesting the creation of the ferris wheel would be! I've been enjoying reading historical and biographical picture books recently, especially on topics that I might not be up to reading a long dry book about. This was the perfect amount of information and interesting story to captivate most audiences. I loved the art and the use of color was fantastic. I actually learned a lot about the first ferris wheel and I'm shocked that I hadn't really thought about how big of a deal it is. This would make a really cool read for a classroom and especially for kids who enjoy engineering/building/creating cool designs.

The interesting and fascinating story of how Chicago tried to outdo Paris' Eiffel Tower for the 1893 World's Fair with a new creation, a monster wheel.

Gorgeous book that incorporates a lot of information. The balance between being informative and entertaining is well done, although I found the difference in fonts a bit jarring at times. There are so many interesting things about the Chicago World's Fair, and Mr. Ferris is able to convey a feeling for the times.

Why is is that authors and copy editors don't get the difference between cement and concrete?

A lot of words for a picture book. But a great child's biography. Well really it's more a story of the first Ferris Wheel then a story about Ferris. But it captures the purpose of a World's Fair. And the art was good and it was quite readable. Definitely worth a re-read.

Full confession: I didn't think I would like this book or find it interesting. Full confession #2: I was wrong. Who knew I would love reading about a great fear of engineering?!

Perfect of inspiring building adventures with tinker toys or Legos, this gives the background of the very first Monster Wheel. Created as the Chicago World's Fair answer to the Eiffel Tower, the Monster Wheel was later renamed in honor of the engineer who designed it, George Ferris.

Providing background on the design of the wheel and the many challenges faced by George Ferris in his quest to bring his visionary ride to the World's Fair. From delayed decisions by the Fair Board, a lack of funding, and even problem soil, this is a building project that faced many challenges. Teaching perseverance by example, the book also explains weight distribution in ways that children can understand.

Named to several "Best of" book lists and as an Orbis Pictus Honor Book, Mr. Ferris and His Wheel utilizes a pastel color palate suggestive of the past, but styling that feels contemporary. The text itself contains a lot of information, but is not too much for primary grades. This book seems made for use with a second or third grade STEAM program. This is a nominee for the 2017 Louisiana Young Readers Choice.

Illustrations are beautiful and the story is interesting, but I felt it dragged a bit in the writing to keep students' interest.
