This one was a hard one to rate because it took me so long to finish! Honestly, I did like the book, and I'm quite glad I picked it up (well technically I downloaded it...). I wasn't sure of it at first, mostly because it's classified under the fantasy category, and honestly, I'm not usually a huge fan of fantasy novels, but this one I feel almost has more of a medieval feel to it, as well as a little bit of fantasy mixed in. Other than it taking FOREVER to finish I really really enjoyed it. I'm not sure if it took so long because I was busy, or I just wasn't that into it, but let's just say the last 100 pages, I didn't want to stop reading it!

Anyway, for those of you who don't know what A Game of Thrones is about, it follows a number of families who basically are all plotting against one another to steal the throne and rule the kingdom. It has a lot of twists and turns, but really it's just about who is going to rule over the kingdom. I could go into more detail, but honestly, it has so many crazy details, I don't think I could really do it justice.

I was starting to fall into a slump, and although I wanted to read fantasy, I didn’t have the brain power to get to know a new world. I decided to read this as I’ve seen parts of the TV series and it was absolutely the right decision. It’s a fantasy lover must read, but I don’t tend to read books that I have already seen the adaptation of.

There is nothing that I can say that is going to be new information. The world is so insanely rich, the characters are so layered and complex, and the writing style is just second to none. I personally really enjoy the grim dark aspects of this series. They’re so gritty and it’s so compelling to read.

It’s a world that I feel like I can return to whenever I want to feel familiarity, but I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series because I know they have more and more differences to the TV series. As long as Tyrion is there, I’m there.

WOW!! Where do I even begin on this one?

Yes- the book is longggggg.
Yes- every single page is worth the long read
Yes-it has some old/English language in it which can be slightly confusing, but I loved how it added true character to the book and the story.
Yes-the book comes from the viewpoint of several people. It can get confusing. I was fully invested into this book and I loved that 1 story was portrayed from about 10 different viewpoints and personalities. Great feature to this book.

Plain and simple: I loved everything about this book. I was skeptical as I haven't read many books that are medieval themed but this book took away all the skeptisim and made me a believer.
George R.R. Martin has developed an amazing cast of characters who are part of a fantastic journey. From beginning to end I was hooked and wanted to know more. I grew attached to each of the characters, loving some and hating others.

In my opinion, a book that can keep you motivated (especially with one this length) throughout the entire book is a rare and amazing success. Well, you did ir George, this book for me was a home run.

I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends. So good, couldn't put it down! I can't wait to see what comes next in the second book of the series.
