I love Amanda’s poetry and this was just what I needed before knowing it. Ever reflective without being at a loss for the meaning, would and do recommend this to everyone in my life.
I liked part three of the poetry book the most because there were a lot of empowering badass female poems. The rest did not really speak to me. It probably will speak to other people tho.

“she wants someone who will listen to what she has to say without thinking she’s either stupid or annoying. she wants someone—anyone—to take the time to understand her.

really hit me.

I enjoyed this book a lot more than the other book I read by Lovelace. I liked how the author listed the trigger topics that were in the book in case people some readers need to be able to prepare themselves to approach certain topics. Overall, this was a very quick read.

I've really enjoyed Amanda Lovelace's poetry before, some of them are quite beautiful but this one was absolutely not it. I was so bored and almost none of it felt like poetry. Like no, I'm not gatekeeping what poetry is and isn't but this was just endless paragraphs of affirmative quotes or Instagram captions or something.
It was very much telling instead of showing through verse. Poetry is supposed to be lyrical, not whatever this was. The author's poetry is usually different and out of the box but I think this was just a fail for me.
