The whole brother sister thing is pretty icky, but hey I'm a 90s kid and this isn't the first step siblings relationship I've seen.
It does bother me that so many readers did not use the graphic sexual content, ableism, or incest content warnings.

i’ve read one of B. Celeste’s books before and I didn’t enjoy it so I was scared I wouldn’t like the writing in this novel. I was wrong though! I thoroughly enjoyed this heartbreaking book. Kaiden and Emery were just so good for each other and it was just so heartbreaking learning about their pasts and how they relate. This book was an amazing depiction on how being sick and knowing someone who is sick really affects your life and way of thinking. B Celeste really hit the ball out of the park with this one. I recommend you give this book a go for a good cry!

A good story if you can look past a certain trope… which I could not.

This book was super surprising to me. I went into it blind, the cover was basically what made me read it because it's so pretty and striking. I knew very little except for the synopsis. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is for these pros and cons:
Pros:
I loved Emery. She felt tangible, relatable and I felt seen by her. I felt justified and enjoyed her narrative. The things she goes through, feels, it was so interesting to read.
The writing style is great, easy to read, the book is fast paced enough where if you have enough time you could probably finish it in one sitting.
Cons:
What the synopsis doesn't tell you is the love story isbetween step siblings and that just made me feel very uncomfy and also I don't do well with it being YA and sex is involved. To promote sex at such a young age isn't right, IMO. But that is more of a me thing than anything else
And the toxicity of the lead male character was too much. It gives the false idea that you can change someone if you're just always kind to them or because they find out something earthshattering about you makes them change completely who they are to fit your needs better. He was very toxic and I feel it conditions/grooms young readers (14-18 y/os) that when a guy is hot and cold with you (mostly cold) that you can change him if you're just kind to him. It sets young women up for abusive relationships, IMO
Anyway enough of my TEDtalk. I enjoyed the overall book, it was well written, and even though there were some blaring red flags, I had a good time with the book. It gave me a lot of feels!
