I enjoyed the storyline of Josie being abducted and trying to find the killer of the other murders. However the romance was none existent, nothing happened between the two main characters until 65%, I didn’t feel any connection between the couple at all. I’m not sure if the focus here was on the romance anyway, it seemed to me the author was focusing on the serial killer and what had happened to Josie, but for me after reading Dane’s Storm I was hoping for a connection like that between the main couple and I didn’t get it which was disappointing. If your not worried about the romance part and love a good murder/abduction/serial killer novel you will love this book.

This was a difficult book to get through. I would say my overall take was I liked it, but it felt a little too "torture porn" for me a lot of the time. I think the romance in this really took a back seat to the mystery/crime genre which can be a good thing, but in this case just left me feeling uncomfortable reading about how she was abused. Ultimately it WAS well written, and I have read other things I liked by Mia Sheridan, but if you are squeamish about detailed abuse, this book isn't for you.

I ate this book UP!!!!! So good!!! I loved Josie so much and wanted so badly for her to finally be happy. And I was so invested in the mystery. And I love a protective man lol.

I struggled a bit with the believability of the true motives behind the crimes committed, but tbh evil people are going to do evil things… so I’m okay with it.

The ending made me cry so hard. I must read another book from miss Mia!! There is a sequel… so I may need to read that immediately but I’m actually feeling at peace with how this first book ended. So we’ll see!

I do not think I have ever read a romance thriller as this one - Mia Sheridan is a magician with her writing, this is the first book of hers I was fortunate to read and I am really a fan - such a powerful, emotional narrative which was very tough to read in parts with graphic description of abduction, rape, kidnapping, torture, bodily injury and gore. The author was able to deal with sensitive concepts too, questionable moments of ethic, with grace. Many tear-jerking moments.

The MMC and FMC are beautiful, complicated characters brought together in adverse conditions, Zach and Josie are strong-willed formidable characters, I was rooting for them from the beginning. This was also chilling and haunting, fans of thrillers/suspense and murder mysteries will not be disappointed. Incredible show of skills from a versatile writer - kudos to Mia! Looking forward to reading more of Mia's work.
