Sport Romance • high school crush  •

Nothing memorable and a tad too long (unnecessarily) again. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it and felt like a similar read to other books I’ve read over the years. I might need to a little pause from sport / hockey romances.

Oh and the MMC gave me the ick but that could have been due to the narrator (sorry :(  …   )

A cute entertaining palate cleanser. It was a fun read with a lot of romantic tension but no deep plot. Not my favourite writing but I was entertained.

The book kept me engaged in and entertained with the development of the main couple both in their relationship and their personal aspirations. The high school crush on both sides is still strong, and it's cute seeing it develop into a deeper caring and affection as they actually get to know each other now.

There are two aspects of the plot I didn't enjoy: the imbalanced aspect of the main couple's sexuality, and the liberties taken with hockey as a sport to make a single scene with a side character so much more dramatic.

I'm not a huge fan of the empahis on the FMC's sexual inexperience; she has just come out off a years long relationship, so that emphasis seems unreasonable and uncalled for, especially as the MMC sees it as something he's going to change with his competitive and bossy ways. That sounds a little too much like a woman needinga man to fix her sexually. But  if that dynamic is what gets the main couple going, good for them, I guess.

The author's content warning says there are adjustments to professional hockey made, and I'm not happy with those liberties taken (
a rule-allowed fistfight scene in the middle of a game seems just stupid to me, besides the same effect could have been achieved without changing the rules of the whole sport
).

This book was such a cute read! It felt sweet and cozy and really embodies the grumpy X sunshine trope quite well! And let me tell you, the spice was SOOO well written🤌🏼
For a hokey romance it was nice to have a really lighthearted story while still delivering meaningful content and characters that felt genuine and real!
