THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH STARS IN THE UNIVERSE TO DESCRIBE HOW THIS SERIES FUCKED ME RIGHT IN THE EMOTIONS, NO LUBE.

I have not felt THIS emotionallly wrecked since I read "a little life"
And that was top-tier panic-attack-inducing, chest caving-in crying, and this was a VERY close second cry incident for me.

Frederik Backman is a legitimate genius when it comes to foreshadowing and compelling story writing.
I felt stressed to my fucking core, this whole book.
Because of fucking ominous foreshadowing that begins in book 1, and DOES NOT LET UP UNTIL 92 FUCKING % OF BOOK 3.

Frederik Backman is an artist of words.
As you are heading through these books, none of the small stories he offers you are really a cohesive plot.
They are more like.... small side quests for each side character.
And you can't see the whole image..........
But when you step back and look at the larger picture, YOU SEE HIS UNIVERSE.
(and holy hell, it's equal parts evil, equal parts magnificent.

ok, so i was captivated enough by the first two books to keep reading, but they didn’t hit as much as I expected. This was REALLY good though. I enjoyed being back in the insular world of Beartown/Hed, and I found the pacing and narrative arcs of this book much more interesting than the first two tbh. I don’t know if I’d recommend the trilogy to everyone, but I loved getting to spend one last three months (listen it’s been busy) with these characters. Still not five stars, because some elements were repetitive, but I suppose if you’d read the books when they came out maybe you’d need a reminder ??

I enjoyed this because I was already attached to the world and the characters from the previous two books. I might not have had the patience for it otherwise. The exposition about human nature and the characters in particular is part of the charm of this series but there was too much of it in this one and it overwhelmed the actual story.

I really enjoyed catching up with everyone from Beartown. The author sure knows how to develop a story with endearing characters. I live the strong women saving the world.

He should have stopped after the first book.
