I really enjoy this author’s writing style. This was my second favorite book of the trilogy, and I found this book more plot-driven than the other two. Books with deeply flawed characters are my favorite to read, and Fredrik Backman is a master.
Moderate: Gun violence, Sexual assault, Violence
Minor: Homophobia
When I got to page 643 I threw the book across the room. Why does Fredrick Backman do this to my heart! SUCH a crazy good series!
this final book gets a 5/5 from me. the entire trilogy is an incredibly well-written critique of political and societal norms, featuring realistic narratives and captivating prose. i'm happy to have finally finished it. but also, what the hell!!!

I have never wanted a happy ending for a character more than I wanted one for Benjamin Ovitch. And of course Backman destroyed me by foreshadowing about 2/3 the way through the book that he did not get it. But maybe he did? He ended up the hero everyone else always saw in him, but he could never see in himself. God, I loved that boy with all my heart. And it shattered even though I'd known for ages he wasn't going to make it. How does Backman do these things?!? OMG! And the part where Zakel (sp?) let's Alicia wear #16 for just one game...let me go over in a corner and SOB for 10 minutes, please and thank you.
Though this story was a too long in my opinion (took way to long to set up the story and almost seemed too short a time to conclude it) it had Backman's general flare. For those who don't like rambling poetic thoughts and story spoiling foreshadowing, he's not for you. All I can say is this author is definitely for me.

It felt really good to be back in Beartown and get to see where some of the characters from the first two books are currently in the story. As a fan of the series, I enjoyed catching up with the old characters and learning about the new ones as well but if you are new to this series I'm not sure how interesting it will be step into this series as the climax of the book isn't until the last 10% of the book and you might not fully understand why certain characters are so beloved. I wish Backman would have spent more time with some of the older characters especially Benji and Maya because they are some of Backman's most compelling characters in the series, especially Benji. I normally love a sequel or subsequent books within a story especially if I loved the first book, but I can't say that this book was necessary. It felt as though it was a way to indulge the fan base rather than give the readers a new original story. The story felt like an extended version of the first book. Since I'm a big fan of the series I didn't mind, but if I had never read the first two books I would be frustrated to read almost 700 pages catching up with characters I know nothing about. The best part about the book was the ending. This book gives more of a flushed-out picture of what happens in the future with each of the characters which left me satisfied with this series coming to an end. Overall, I would recommend this book to lovers of the Beartown series but if you are new to the series start with the first book to get a better understanding of the original charters.
