I am very torn on my rating for this book! First of all, I have LOVED this series overall. And this one packed emotional weight like the others. Backman definitely  had me fully sobbing with the ending, and I may never forgive him for what he did!! But, despite the impact of the ending and some good moments, I feel like he needed an editor to reel him in. It was just too much, too long, retreading the same ground with diminishing returns. I never thought I'd tire of spending time with Beartown's lovable misanthropes, but the pace dragged quite a bit in the middle.

I love the characters in this series so much and was excited to read more about them. Newly introduced characters were well developed. It seems like Alicia’s story will continue in another book. This book is very long and seemingly unnecessarily so. Some of the plot points end quite abruptly. There are a lot of characters to keep track of so they all end up with less page time.

Wow… I gotta say that this one was bittersweet to finish bc I was excited to see what happened but sad to see this series come to its conclusion. As expected, I sobbed uncontrollably more than a few times throughout the book and more than a few times at the ending alone. I am mourning the loss of all of these characters, not just the ones who died, but also the ones who are alive and whose stories I won’t be able to follow anymore. This was a beautiful series with excellent story building, and I am excited to read more of Backman’s other books!
