Fredrik Backman once agains delivers a book that readers will want to inhale. This is the third book in his Beartown series. Even though the good majority of the book is of a slower pace, The Winners does start off with a flurry of excitement and ends with some more.
Much more than his other previous books, I found Backman heavily used foreshadowing in this story. I could feel the tension building. I knew that once again Backman was going to filet me emotions all over the place by ripping a beloved character from the book. The foreshadowing was palpable.
For those, like me, who love Backman's unique style of writing will not be disappointed with this book. He continues to have a beautiful way of describing people, place and events in a way that resonates with me. He is a master at his craft and once again he has proven that I will read anything and everything this author writes.
4.5 stars rounded up to 5. My only regret is that I didn't read all three books closer together so I remembered more of the characters before diving in to The Winners.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and the publishers. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

benji benji benji you are everything to me. this series is incredible oh my god the highs and lows of humanity all in one, the interpersonal dynamics that are only possible in small communities wracked with tragedy. these are maybe the stories that matter the most.

So moving and beautiful and painful. I don’t normally cry after finishing a book, but this left me in tears. All of the character feel so real and human and the story, while telling you what will happen remains captivating and surprising.

It gets only 4 stars because of the length....it was really just too long. 5 stars for content.

Absolutely great third book in this incredible series. I love these books.
I loved this book and this series so much. It will be on my recommendation list for everyone! You can’t help but fall in love with and become so attached to every character in this story. I became so invested in every story and kept wanting to hear more about how everyone’s story comes to an end. So raw. So real. A must read.

3.5/5
I'm torn. On one hand I love Beartown. I'm invested in the people and the goings on. On the other hand, I hope that Fredrik Backman can let these characters stay as they are at the end of The Winners, because there's only so much intrigue or drama that can happen in one small town to one small hockey club.
If you loved Beartown and Us Against You, you will enjoy this book like I did. I found the pontificating and rhetorical questions tedious towards the end of the read, but pushed through to an ending that had me crying on the couch.
The book is probably too long and too sentimental for its own good, but I couldn't bring myself to hit that 3 out of 5 stars button.
