This book made me cry 38% in. Made me cry 50% in. Made me cry until I finished it. Beautifully written. A lot of realizations about life.

I think it's official.

I'm going to eat up everything Taylor Jenkins Reid writes.

After I Do is a roller coaster of emotions. Right off the bat I knew it was about to break my heart.

And it did.

In a spectacular, over-the-top kind of way.

I was able to predict a couple of plot points, those cliche moments, but I can tolerate that since I knew what I signed up for in reading a romance book.

Overall it was well written. TJR is really a good writer.

The characters jumped out of the pages as if they were real people.

I am not currently married or involved with someone in any way Lauren and Ryan were. I may not have the best judgement when it comes to what the characters were going through, and certainly a few of Lauren's perspective didn't align with my own beliefs and values. But I do know that somewhere in this world many couples go through that same difficult situation.

And I hope they try.

Because the sun will shine, no matter what.

And all we can do is try.

And with this... I have officially caught up and read all of Taylor Jenkins Reid's books!! How exciting!

After I Do is not my favorite of her books, but it isn't my least favorite either. It is firmly in the middle as a solidly TJR-coded book. It is probably one of my favorites from her backlist just because of the feelings it elicited while I was reading.

I found the concept of a married couple living separate lives for a year in order to save their marriage really interesting. It intrinsically adds a lot of conflict and tension without having to go out of the way to create various scenarios.

You can tell how much Lauren and Ryan care about each other just by the fact that they want to make their marriage work even with all the strife and anger they feel towards each other before their year apart. It creates such an interesting dynamic for readers. I originally really disliked Ryan and thought he was a prick, but I was able to see his character development right alongside Lauren.

What was interesting to me is the fact that while reading, I didn't know if the couple would be able to make it work and find their way back to each other or if TJR would do away with conventions and not give this story a HEA. It made for an interesting read.

This book dragged on for me. And I think it’s because I feel like I related more to Rachael than to the MC Lauren. Nonetheless- still a great story and well written novel from miss TJR!
