this book follows a married couple fall out of love and decided to take a one year break. my favourite part of this are the story and the messages it tries to get across about family, marriage, and love. its flawed in its delivery- there are times where it ends up being corny, predictable, and desperate to be quotable.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read, with lessons of love that I can speak into my own marriage. But it is also my least favourite tjr book so far…. its good for a light read.

I loved this— it felt like an eloquent look into the depths of how we can love someone, grow to hate them, and come back.

I really enjoyed this story. I don’t feel like the hard of marriage is talked about enough sometimes and when it is the answer is always to just find someone new. However, I think sometimes you need to step back and appreciate what you have. You don’t always know what you have until it’s gone…I honestly didn’t know how this was going to end but it was definitely the ending I wanted!

On my saga of reading through TJR’s published works, I came into this one knowing it probably wasn’t going to be my favorite and I was right. As her second published novel, I had an idea that it wouldn’t hold up to her more recent work. It suffers some of the same problems as Forever, Interrupted - the dialogue is stilted and the book is overwritten and self-indulgent. But I think the main problem with these first two is that TJR had yet to learn to write good male leads. They are one dimensional and honestly, not that likable and definitely not exceptional. It makes the plot difficult to buy into because why would the female leads put all this emotional work into mediocre men?

It was interesting to see TJR’s growth through reading these back to back, though. The book is slightly less overwritten and the characters have somewhat more depth. The female lead was far more likable and the dialogue and relationships (with the exception of the main one) were a bit more realistic and believable. I honestly think, though, what made this book a better read for me was that the male lead was absent for most of it, and therefore not actively detracting from the storyline. I’m looking forward to reading the next on TJR’s list and see how she continued to improve!

Flew through this book! Read it in 2 days and absolutely loved it. I'll read anytime TJR writes
