Slaughter writes some of the most disturbing fiction out there, but it rarely feels gratuitous. This book moved very quickly, but didn't seem rushed. I did, however, have a lot of trouble keeping track of who was who - characters would appear and quickly become very crucial to the plot, without me having a chance to figure out who they were or where they came from. The plot was decent - very creepy at points, and I appreciated Slaughter creating context for real-life events in the past that I didn't know a ton about (Waco siege, etc.).

Slaughter is definitely an author I gravitate to, but I definitely need to read her in moderation because her stories can be heavy!

It has been a while since I dipped back into a book in the Will Trent series and despite that it felt very easy to get back into it with the familiar characters. This story starts out one way.... and I wasnt very sure where it was going, kept trying to link it to the title of the book... then that sort of makes sense towards the end, where the book is entirely not what I expected. She says this story only lasts over a few days well boy, it felt way longer than that with the amount of information our team figures out !
It was a unique and sad story with a lot of moving pieces and characters. Lots of trigger warnings as usual for a Ms Slaughter book.
