This was a disappointment. I was hoping for something edgier, more intense or creepy, but the stakes never felt raised. The protagonist is incredibly unlikable, but doesn't seem to realize how awful she is.

I wanted this to end differently. It felt very lackluster for such a great story. Maybe I am just used to mysteries and thrillers that have major twists, but this left me wanting something different at the end. Up until the last chapter I would have given it much better ratings.  The last chapter was a bummer to me.

It’s not that the book was BAD; I just didn’t think it was very good. It felt like a weird spin on the show “You,” where the narrator/protagonist (if you can call them that) is mildly aware of their delusions but rationalizes them anyways. The difference between Joe in You and Naomi in this book is that Joe wasn’t boring. I found this book so hard to read at times because Naomi didn’t interest me. Sure there were some clever parts but overall this fell flat for me and I’m glad to move past it.

Also, this book (TW) depicts rape in a very cavalier manner in my opinion and doesn’t address the traumas associated with it. I found that highly disconcerting and not very palatable. Proceed with caution.

Sped through most of it in a (late) night - really compelling. Loved the pacing and characters.
