I found that this book feel flat of the praise I saw online. I found the pacing of the book so slow and boring. I didn’t find the writing style all that engaging. I think the authors personal experience and life story to be powerful, this book does not adequately convey that. If this wasn’t for book club I would not have finished.

This book is turning out to be a big disappointment for me...the writing style fails to capture the reader, and I cannot empathize with the women characters because there's almost no character development whatsoever. I cannot help but compare this book to Persepolis in which Marjane Satrapi does an excellent job portraying life in Iran during the revolution, and this book is nowhere near as powerful as that one. I believe this book is way overrated and doesn't really deserve all the hype. I don't know how it ended up as a bestseller, really.

I spent a long time reading this book, not because it was difficult to read or lengthy, but because I needed time to let my emotions settle. I would read a very short section and just need time to absorb what I read. I didn't know anything about life in Iran until I read this. I've always thought that revolutions give people more freedom, not take it away. This book is about a group of women who risk their lives to read restricted books like Pride & Prejudice. I should also mention that it is a true story.

This book is the most overrated book I've read in quite some time. It was so BORING. Even the chapter titled Gatsby (my favorite book) could not keep me interested. I had to give up, and I'm not one to give up easily.

I couldn't finish it, so I put it down after 75 pages or so. Nothing about her style captivated me and the writing seemed a bit scattered.
