The ending didn’t seem to fit the rest of the story but it’s a sweet book about friendship and community.

Narwhal is stuck in her fishbowl but dreams of seeing the world. Her boy calls over his friends and their pets to help take Narwhal out to explore from the safety of her fishbowl.

I love Lisa Mantchev's Strictly No Elephants, so was excited for this book. I was pleasantly surprised when it appears this is the narwhal from Elephants! The only confusing this, because I know that book well, was that this book is illustrated by a different artist. So although there seemed to be enough references to indicate it is some of the same secondary characters from Elephants, it doesn't quite connect because they don't look exactly the same. I liked the story, though, and the need to be brave and try new things.

Well, that was pretty damn adorable. How can I get a tiny narwhal that I can keep in a fishbowl?

Theme: nawhals

I liked this book but had some questions about how one gets a narwhal into a fishbowl in the first place. Seemed a little odd.

The lesson is supposed to be about how the whole world can be her fishbowl, but all I can think of is depressed animals in captivity.

Meh. Weird book that advocates looking at pictures instead of seeing the world. I guess so kids won't feel bad about keeping a fish in a fishbowl (obvs a Narwhal can't live in a fishbowl). I'm not really sure what the author's after, but the book seems unintentionally sad--Narwhal gets to see the ocean, and how enormously blue it is, and then settles for a occasional walk down the street and travel photos. Not recommended.
