Jeannette Walls has the ability to write engaging stories and which has a nice flow when reading. I found Jeannette by accident. The Glass Castle was on sale and I went for it and it was a great discovery and I've been following her work ever since.

The Silver Star is about Charlotte, Liz and Bean Holladay. Charlotte, a mom, who aspires to be a musician and finds it hard to be a mom for Liz and Bean. After a long disappearance by Charlotte, Liz and Bean had to travel to find their Uncle Tinsley and adjust to living their lives there without their mom.

It's a simple story but Jeannette brings her readers in, something that I really like from authors. I'll definitely continue following her work.

Jeannette sold me on her writing with The Glass Castle. When this one came out, I had to read it immediately. It did not disappoint. I recommend it!

This is a story of Liz and Bean, who are deserted by their fathers and abandoned by their mother, so they travel to live with an uncle that they never met. In this town, their troubles only get worse because no one seems to like them and Liz gets sexually assaulted. Somehow despite all this hardship it turns into a happy ending. It feels a bit contrived, although written so that you stay interested enough to read it. I preferred her The Glass House to this.

3.5. Loved it and couldn't put it down. Such a good writer! But not quite as good as Half-Broke Horses, although in my mind I'm not sure many people can top that.

I enjoyed this. I will recommend to friends. I just feel I've read parts of this book before and I'm not sure why. They just seemed familiar.

Loved Glass Castle so not surprised that I adored this book. Mother daughter, sister and sister relationships that feel very rooted in Wall's reality. I haven't read such a complete and fulfilling novel in awhile--the end tied everything up so nicely. A great story about two sisters who go back to their mother's hometown in Virginia. The 12-year old narrator Bean is so charming, and even though she sometimes comes off a little too smart for her age, I just adored her voice.

Jeanette Walls is a great writer, whether it is fiction or nonfiction. My only hang up with this story is that it felt like it ended too abruptly, but that's could just be me. I really wanted more of Bean & Liz's story.
