When I read the cover it seemed kind of like The Hunger Games Trilogy, but it wasn't like that at all. These dares are insane, and the individual dares prey on the things you fear the most. The final challenge ended pretty quickly, and it wasn't very clear. I had to read it more than once to make sure I didn't miss anything. All around very good book. Lauren Oliver rarely ever disappoints me.

if this game existed when i was in hs, i would have played... and won.

Each year in Carp, recent high school graduates are able to compete in Panic, a high stakes, possibly deadly game to win the pot. This year, Heather surprises herself and decides to participate along with her friends Natalie and Dodge. Along with classmates the 3 compete to win the prize.

The book starts out a little slow and quickly picks up speed. I appreciated that Oliver doesn't glamorize small town life but instead depicts the sometimes seedier nature of it. Since the situations that the teens find themselves in are pretty unrealistic, it really isn't fair to call this book realistic fiction but it definitely isn't fantasy either. While the book was enjoyable, its ending was pretty predictable from the get go.

Seeing as how I abandoned this book back in September and didn't revisit it until 6 months later means that it started off slow and uninteresting. The other half was a bit more fast-paced, although maybe it was because I was skimming through the whole thing. There were too many characters for me to keep track of. Heather and Nat sounded alike, so at times I didn't know who Bishop and Dodge were lusting after. It was all a blur, really.

3 1/2 - I read this because I heard that it will be made into an Amazon Orginal Show. So wanted to read the story first.

The characters are complicated and multi faceted. I liked that the pov was with two entirely different people, who had very different reasons to join in the game.

This was a really good and intense and amazingly well thought out novel and I totally recommend. Its so cool and I'm so sick for wanting to play Panic--or more likely watch others play--but I do.

The game was surely pretty thrilling! I think the parts in between the challenges weren't interesting enough though. I also wasn't very attached to the characters either, which always sucks a bit.. Lauren Oliver used to be my favourite author, but I think we all grow and our taste changes and I think that this one just didn't do it for me unfortunately.

This was fun, and a hopeful kind of dark. It will appeal to fans of YA dystopia and the Hunger Games while being something a bit different, and I found it pretty enjoyable.

Narrator was great but I couldn't get into the story. This may be because I was also caring for a small child.

From the blurb, I expected much more action and intrigue, but the game of Panic mostly served as a narrative device for the main drama.
