This book took me awhile to get into because of the politics and Lio suffering to the point where reading it felt like a drag. Once they get back together, things pick up but the first half of the book feels very slow and some things could've been cut, combined, or shortened to make it flow a little better.

Still, I love Cassia and Lio. Watching Lio get a little bit protective and murderous against those who'd harm Cassia was done in a way that it was endearing and not cringe, which is a fine line!

However the foot thing gave me a bit of the ick.

If you want fast-paced fantasy, this will probably be too slow for you. I'm not a huge fan of that classic fantasy feel, but I'm fully invested and the plot is good! So I'm going to continue the series, and I'm excited to see where this goes!

I would prefer there to be more of Cassia and Lio together but I think this will be the case with the next book.

I could watch cassia and Lio literally just eat dinner for pages and pages.

Something about these two and this relationship has sucked me in so deeply that I am here for everything they do.

This sequel is filled with a lot of political maneuvering specifically behind the scenes and also a lot of world building which is incredible. The vampires and their history that Vela Roth has created is something I've seen done very few times. It feels like they truly exist imo they are so well thought out.

Do I think this book had enough plot in it to be as long as it was? Probably not. Did I care? no!

As I said I will watched these two do nothing forever. They are just so sweet.
