This would be good if actually all three of them fell in love and then they ran away together as a polycule. More polycules in 19th century literature please!

I have to admit, I do not quite know what to make of this one. That is one of the risks I take by reading works without context, which is what I did with this. I read it as I am trying to decide which playwrights to read next now that I've finished Shakespeare and Ibsen. Not sure where to go next with Strindberg, I wasn't a fan of the themes but it definitely had something to say.

Overall, it felt this was quite harsh and well outdated, but I also can see that in the hands of good actors there would be many amazing scenes. I am looking forward to trying some adaptations (there are many! Thank goodness for Kanopy which has 2!), and seeing interpretations of the work and choices that the actors make.

This one was alright. It was easy enough to read and understand, I’m just not a huge fan of Strindberg’s clearly misogynistic point of view. He said some interesting things about class, and I enjoyed some of the metaphors he wrote. Plus, it is kind of fun to see inside people like this’ heads, but overall it’s not a favorite of mine.

Part of an occasional series: plays I never had to read for my drama degree.

Wow I really misinterpreted the ending because I was so confident she was taking the razor to murder jean and/or her father and personally I think we should incorporate this into the next adaptation!!!
