Perhaps my favorite book in this series thus far? It didn't escape my notice that for all the Song of Ice and Fire series (and all its related works and franchises) is generalized as brutal, hypermasculine grimdark fantasy, and though there is cause for that, there's more nuance to GRRM's writing than I think people might be willing to admit, and I think AFFC is where a lot of that nuance is to be found. To be sure, that's a lot (a lot) to criticize about GRRM - his portrayal of women and non-"white" characters/cultures being no small part of it. That said, the POV characters in this book are generally non-conventional: they're women, they're young girls, they're disabled - they're all perspectives that contribute significant fuel to doubt this whole series casts on patriarchal feudalism, on the romanticization of might and primogeniture. George, finish the damn series, I need to know where it all goes.

Also, shout out to Jaime Lannister. Never thought this dude would cement himself as one of my favorite characters but his character development is so good.

I love the mixing of storylines in this novel. Also I always forget how much I hate Cersei

It's what they say...pieces of meat in a lot of bread...but hey it's a song of ice and fire and it's still fucking great.

It’s weirdly entertaining for so sexist and misogynistic white fantasy written for men who would like to see women closed in their homes and being available for them on any occasion.

This book was long but the further I got, the more connected everything became... Characters I once loved grew more annoying, and I began to have a soft spot for even those characters I used to hate. I cannot wait to continue reading asoiaf
